NEWS

  • Regarding the proposals to merge Slade Green Infant and Junior Schools (see below), we are told that there could not be a decision from the Government on whether to approve this in principal until after the General Election, and that it is now subject to the reviews of finances being undertaken by the new Government.
  • Bexley Council have published a survey about the future of the Howbury Centre site. Residents should have received the survey recently with their copy of Bexley magazine, the survey is also online here
  • Bexley Council have announced "Slade Green Infant and Junior Schools are the subject of a joint expression of interest from the Council and Haberdashers' Aske's Federation that has been submitted to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) that could see the schools become part of the new Haberdashers' Aske's Crayford Academy. " More on the Council website here
If the issue moves forward fast enough, this may be the topic for our April Public Meeting.
  • Bexley Council will commenced consultation on the future of the Howbury Centre site in January, options paper that went before the Public Cabinet and was approved here (PDF), map giving a rough idea of what is being considered here (PDF).
Consultation documents will be delivered throughout the area in March.
  • We are raising money towards a plaque to commemorate the local people who saved the centre of Slade Green on the night of 16th/17th April 1941, and are looking also at ways of providing better information on the events of 1941 for use in local schools. We need a minimum of £2000 for this, and we'd like to thank the NewsShopper for their recent offer to help us raise these funds. We are hoping we might be able to install the plaque on the 70th anniversary in 2011.
  • Online now! Our 'Around the Green' newsletter for Winter 09/10 (PDF)
  • Also online are our Annual Report 2009, our Income & Expense Account and our Full Accounts for 2008/09
  • Lots of activities are available in the area for young children and their parents through the North End Children's Centre - we have an update from them online here (PDF)
  • A new Family Saturday Club will run in the Howbury Centre on Saturday mornings 9.30 - 11.30 from 7th November. An hour of Arts & Crafts will be followed by an hour of cookery.
All families are welcome, no booking is required.
  • Together with TriForum and the Slade Green Decides panel, and with support from the Bexley Community Safety Partnership, funding has been received to run an event celebrating the history of policing during the October half term
  • The NO NEWS corner: we're often asked, why hasn't work started on the new Rail Freight Depot that has been approved for the farmland between the station and Crayford Marshes. The simple answer is that it appears to be on hold - we suspect, although haven't been told, that the reason relates to the current economic climate.
