Letter from the Vicar

Dear Friends at St Augustine's

Thank-you so very much for your kind welcome during the past year. I have enjoyed my visits to your church, and in these more recent days the very kind hospitality and welcome which several of you have given me, during the course of my pastoral visitation.

St Augustine's has been for me a very fascinating and interesting experience. Several people away from the Parish have suggested to me that the church had a very fine catholic tradition which needed to be resurrected. My observation is that St Augustine's holds a great breadth of tradition, ranging from several members who have been raised in the various "Free Church" denominations, while others would claim to be "Traditional High Church". With several people still to meet, I will be very interested to grasp the whole picture.

With such a range of Christian traditions all coming together, it is important that our pattern of worship reflects the Spiritual and Religious needs of everyone. Thank you to those who have been so honest and open with me, although it has saddened me to learn of the negative things that are sometimes said to others, rather than directly to me.

While admitting to not being technically advanced in relation to our present age, (I don't know how to use a computer), I try to be as available and as approachable as I can. Many of your know that in addition to the ministry at St Augustine's I hold other responsibilities in both health and education. Nevertheless my telephone numbers are given below, and on the back of this magazine. I am always happy to visit, and hold three public services in the Church everyday. St Augustine's is God's Church and your Church. I am simply with you for a very short time, and want to give all of you as much happiness and peace as I can, whilst contributing towards making St Augustine's a really positive and fulfilling experience for all of you.

With kindest regards.
Bye for now, - see you soon.
Neil
