Letter from the Vicar

Dear Friends

A very big "Thank you" for such generous giving during the past month in respect of the various people whose many years of ministry we celebrated, and again on the occasion of Harvest Thanksgiving, when over thirty bags of food and other items including flowers, were so generously brought to the Church. During the afternoon of Sunday 17th October, and during the Monday and Tuesday following, the gifts were distributed amongst those who receive the Eucharist in their homes, as well as members of our congregation recovering from illness and members of the Club for older people, which meets in out Church Hall every Tuesday. The emphasis during the distribution was to give people a very positive and affirmative message that we in Saint Augustine's Church pray for them care about them and remember them.

During the past month there has been a lot of maintenance work carried out both inside and outside our Church building. We have been grateful for the service of an Engineer who worked on our alarm system to stop the frequent buzzing from the box near the Parish Office. We have engaged the services of a Locksmith and a Plumber, and look forward in the near future to engaging and Electrician, Glazier, and Roofing specialist. This is all part of our general maintenance work which has to be carried out, in parallel with the excellent efforts that are being made to install a new heating system, for which I am most grateful to Mr Wally Erdwin, Mr Roy Hillman and members of the Heating Committee, which I know are working very hard in collaboration with yet again such a generous congregation and others to make this a reality.

Finally, I want to pay tribute to those who have cleaned our Church building, some of whom after many years have now retired. Their ministries have been greatly appreciated and they are still fondly remembered especially by those who worked alongside them.

All of this makes me want to say that Saint Augustine's Church Slade Green is a place to be very proud of. It is of course God's Church and your Church, but I can only say in conclusion, that I feel very privileged to have been called by God and invited by you to be the Parish Priest even if it is only for a very short time.

May God continue to bless you.
Neil
