From the Vicarage

Mists and Mellow Fruitfulness

Harvest Festival this year will be on the middle weekend of October. Our Candlelight Harvest Supper on the evening of Saturday 14th will offer food and fun for families and those who come alone, with some music and amusing light entertainment by our choir and other talented friends. After enjoying the fruits of the earth at Harvest Supper, we will give thanks to God for the earth’s fruitfulness at the Harvest Festival Service on Sunday 15th.

The fruits of our faith are important, too. Just as good soil brings forth good, strong, attractive and useful plants, so good souls show the life and liveliness of their faith in the good and useful ways they use their talents. For everyone who reads the Bible in the church services, and everyone who would like to join the rota of Bible-readers, there will be a Workshop at 2pm on Saturday 7th October to build your confidence and brush up your talents.

Helping to create a real welcome and the right worship atmosphere are also marks of good and faithful Christians, and our new team of greeters or welcomers are showing their love of God through their friendliness to his people. There will be a Welcomers/Greeters/Sidespersons Workshop at 2pm on Saturday 18th November for everyone on the rota and anyone else who would like to do this easy but important job. This Workshop will look especially at Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, where help is always needed. To join the rota ask me or a Churchwarden and come to the Workshop.

All Souls Day, which is always on 2nd November, falls on Thursday this year, so St. Augustine’s service of Celebration and Commemoration of loved ones will be held on Sunday 29th October at 4pm. Without God death would be nothing but a tragic loss - with God we have the promise that all who have true faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, will have a home in heaven with God the Father, through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you would like to remember someone in the presence of God, do come to this service.

With every blessing,

Ann
