From the VicaragePalm Sunday to EastertideApril begins with Palm Sunday, and we will be walking in procession around the church, carrying the traditional palm crosses, as we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem to shouts of praise - which soon turned to indifference and aggression. On Wednesday in Holy Week we will walk round the church again, this time stopping to reflect and pray at each of the pictures of the Stations of the Cross.Maundy Thursday is the day of the Last Supper which Jesus ate with his closest friends. As he shared the bread and handed round the cup of wine, knowing what lay ahead of him, he said to them, ‘Do this in remembrance of me’. Then he went out into the dark Garden of Gethsemane, asking his disciples to watch and pray with him for just one hour. All Christians, especially those who have been confirmed, should be in church on this evening to receive Holy Communion. Good Friday is the day on which our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Son of God, was crucified, showing the sad results of the enmity which sets people against goodness and love. On Easter Day we see the glorious results of God’s all-powerful goodness and love. We celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus, returning to us, to be with us always. Death is not the end, and not even death can separate those who believe in God from their heavenly Father. Easter Day is therefore kept as the Sunday of Sundays, with joyful hymns of triumph, a new Paschal Candle and Easter eggs for all the children.
With every blessing,
Ann
