From the VicarageHappy EastertideIt is Easter Day as I write this - the day of the resurrection.I'd like to say that the sun is shining, but instead there has been snow. All the same, we welcomed many people to our service this morning, including some of the local Brownies who led our prayers, and there was real joy as those who have been confirmed received communion and the youngsters were blessed before receiving their delicious, colourful, chocolate Easter eggs. After the service, as usual, everyone was offered tea, coffee or orange squash, and today there was a special Easter cake and iced biscuits as well. On the fifth Sunday of Eastertide, 20th April, our Annual Parochial Meeting will be held in the Church Hall at 4pm. Everyone who is on St. Augustine's electoral roll is entitled to be present and to vote on any matter which is important to them. Remember, if you care about the Church you need to share in its work and responsibilities, including electing your representatives. St. George's Day is, of course, on 23rd April. Every football fan knows St. George's flag, with its striking red cross on a white background, so most people know that St. George is the patron saint of England. This year the Erith and Crayford District Scouts will be celebrating St. George, the soldier-saint who killed the wicked dragon, on Sunday 27th April at 2.30 pm, by holding their Parade in St. Augustine's Church. The Beavers and Cubs will be with the Scouts, and it will be good to see them present the Union flag and their standards at the altar. The service is open to everyone, and young people will find it especially enjoyable. Do join us.
With every blessing, Ann
