From the VicarageLooking AheadCongratulations to the newly-confirmed members of our congregation, James, Jerome, Nicky, Susan and Patrick. These members of our Church family have completed the confirmation course and made their public statement of faith, allegiance and ongoing commitment to God in Rochester Cathedral, following on from the promises made for them by their parents and godparents at their baptism when they were young. They are now communicant members of the Church, receiving the spiritual food given by our Lord Jesus Christ in the bread and wine of Holy Communion, and we pray that their faith will continue to increase, being expressed in prayer, attention to the Bible and the service and encouragement of their fellow-Christians.The shops are already selling calendars for next year, and Advent Calendars, too. The Church year is different from the ordinary year. It starts on Advent Sunday – this year that will be 30th November. The first weeks of the year are known as Advent, which means ‘Coming’, and the four Sundays of Advent lead up to Christmas, but Advent is not just about the first coming of Jesus, it is also about how we are caring for our world and making ready for him to come to us again. During Advent the candles on the Advent Crown are lit to remind Christians to keep awake and alert, ready to welcome Jesus. Come and join in the Advent carols.
With every blessing, Ann
